Gradex is an annual exhibition curated and created by the graduating class of the Stellenbosch Visual Arts Department. It allows the students from each of the three study streams: Visual Communication Design, Jewellery Design and Fine Arts, to showcase their work.
The event focuses on celebrating and supporting students’ transition into the creative industry.

Gradex presents works that explore a wide range of themes across the three disciplines offered in the Visual Arts Department at
Stellenbosch University.
The Jewellery Design course, in particular, approaches the field as a critical and reflective practice; one that encourages students to engage with their surroundings and translate ideas into three-dimensional, wearable artworks that both communicate and provoke thought. We view jewellery design as a multifaceted medium, capable of pushing boundaries and conveying messages of identity, place, social standing, cultural practices, and political perspectives.
The Gradex exhibition embodies this design philosophy, as demonstrated in the graduate work of the class of 2024.
