The exhibition presents the formal and thematic richness of jewellery featuring the human figure. It confronts prehistoric and historical jewellery with contemporary works, telling stories of real and fantastical worlds.

Jewellery has been part of human existence since prehistoric times, and depictions of human beings have always been a major theme in jewellery. However, the figural quality of a piece of jewellery is a variable factor. Some viewers accept it entirely, others merely allow it, some reject it outright.
The exhibition shows almost three hundred pieces of jewellery from the rich collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, together with items borrowed from museums in this country and abroad, and from private collections.
The exhibition follows an earlier project at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, Jewellery – Form – Content (2023/2024), and once again maps the ways in which jewellery conveys messages, structured by thematic groups rather than a chronological timeline. The project is accompanied by the publication of a book titled JEWELLERY – FORM – CONTENT (ISBN 978-80-7101-227-6).
Exhibition concept: Petja Matějovič.
Exhibition design: Sylvie Novotná.
Graphic design: Colmo (Miroslav Roubíček, Markéta Hanzalová, Kristýna Tučková).
Opening Hours
Tuesday 10 a.m.–8 p.m.
Wednesday – Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Monday closed
