Ryo Inkyo’s artistic practice explores the relationship between sensorics and mental well-being through jewelry, grounded in the fundamental principles of craftsmanship and material sensitivity.

Ryo Inkyo
Her work began as a personal attempt to regain inner calm through direct contact with natural objects in daily life.
In a time marked by social disconnection caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, economic uncertainty, and recurring natural and political crises, Inkyo’s research seeks to understand how sensory experiences—such as touch, sound, texture, and natural motion—can provide psychological comfort and healing. Influenced by phenomena such as fidget toys, white noise, and ASMR, she investigates how humans connect with the world through multisensory perception.
During her master’s research, Inkyo focused on tactile expression in jewelry. While deepening her understanding of materials and craftsmanship, she soon realized that healing through touch alone had its limitations. Her experience living in Denmark further expanded this perspective: collecting sounds, textures, and visual impressions from natural elements such as wind, waves, and organic surfaces inspired her to explore how these sensory interactions influence our emotions and states of mind.
Through her jewelry works, Inkyo records and translates these subtle sensory moments into tangible forms—inviting viewers to feel rather than simply see. Her current research aims to bridge art, craft, and mental health, proposing jewelry as an intimate medium for emotional resonance and sensory awareness.
