Intro
MEMÒRIA, curated by Sílvia Serra, brings together more than 50 artists from across Spain, exploring memory as an active and dynamic process through which experiences, emotions and fragments of the past are revisited and transformed into artistic expression.

Memory occupies a central place in the world of art and artistic creation, as it acts as a bridge between lived experience and its transformation into expressive form. To create is not only to invent, but also to relive and remember: to recover fragments of the past, emotions, images and sensations that, once reinterpreted, become artistic material, a form of individual cultural heritage. In this sense, memory is not a passive archive, but an active and dynamic process that selects, distorts and re-signifies the value of what has been experienced.

In the artistic field, memory can be both individual and collective. Artists often explore personal memories to give them a universal dimension, while others work with historical memory to question official narratives or preserve identities and social aspects. Art thus becomes a space where the past is not only preserved, but constantly revisited and reinterpreted.

Moreover, memory is deeply connected to creative identity. What an artist remembers, and how they remember it, influences the way they see the world and, consequently, the way they represent it. Artistic creation therefore becomes an exercise in reconstruction: a way of giving shape to the past from the perspective of the present.
Ultimately, memory in art is not simply about remembering, but about living material for creation. It is where experience, imagination and meaning converge, allowing artists to construct new ways of understanding and expressing reality.
