Intro
Sine Die presents the work of Luca Freschi (Forlimpopoli, Italy, 1982) as an exploration of time, memory and the persistence of objects. Through ceramics and the use of molds, Freschi develops a sculptural language characterized by forms in emergence or disappearance, often marked by fragmentation and erosion.
Sine Die presents the work of Luca Freschi (Forlimpopoli, Italy, 1982) as an exploration of time, memory and the persistence of objects. The title of the exhibition – a Latin expression meaning “with no fixed date” – refers to open and undefined temporality, an idea which runs through all his artistic output. Working mainly with terracotta and glazed ceramics, Freschi creates sculptures, assemblages and large paving works which occupy an ambiguous space between archaeology, fiction and recollection.

His work is often based on recognisable elements – vases, anatomical fragments, fruit, tools and architectural remains – which the artist reproduces by means of moulds and reorganises into dense, symbolic compositions. Far from faithfully documenting the past, Freschi recreates it by generating a kind of “imagined archaeology”, where objects become traces of possible experiences, cultures and memories.

The artist acts in this regard almost as a “collector of time”: his works function as memory capsules capable of preserving the ephemeral against disappearance. One may also link his output to the concept of memory found in Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time, where everyday objects revive latent memories and emotions.

Among references to classical tradition, the vanitas of the baroque, and contemporary idioms, Freschi builds a visual universe where past and present permanently coexist. His works appeal not to nostalgia, but rather to the need to retain fragments of memory, given the inevitable fragility of time.
