EUNIQUE 2013
International Fair for Applied Arts and Design; highlights include JUST GLASS and guest country the Netherlands

• Positive outlook for EUNIQUE 2013, international design show featuring unique creations
• International Fair for Applied Arts and Design presents Dutch Design Awards
• Ann Wolff and 14 additional international glass design stars featured as guests in JUST GLASS, the EUNIQUE special show

EUNIQUE, the international fair for applied arts and design, plays a trump card in its fifth year with numerous highlights, in particular the JUST GLASS special show and this year’s guest country, the Netherlands. Trade fair and design experts concur with survey responses: EUNIQUE offers a very high quality standard, guaranteed by a jury of experts; a positive image among exhibitors, industry professionals and visitors; and, above all, a highly developed sense of pioneering design trends.

“The selection criteria for EUNIQUE – top quality, perfection in design, individuality, brilliant new design ideas, innovative use of materials, sustainability and premium value – mean that the fair offers an extraordinary presentation and sales platform for designers and their customers. In five years, EUNIQUE has established itself internationally as an exclusive top shop for top design”, says Britta Wirtz, Managing Director, Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress-GmbH.

Over 350 individual exhibitors, ateliers, manufactories, design labels, galleries, colleges, newcomers and talents from 20 nations will present and sell their innovative unique creations, prototypes and limited-edition series at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Center from 7 to 9 June 2013 – including several creations which have already received design awards.

The EUNIQUE trade-fair brand stands for excellence and uniqueness. This year the fair organisers in Karlsruhe have once again succeeded in bundling extraordinary design exhibits into two unique special themes at EUNIQUE: the design trend presentation by the Netherlands, this year’s partner country; and the JUST GLASS special show, which places a spotlight on glass, a fascinating substance.

At the fifth EUNIQUE, JUST GLASS focuses on a design material that is both archaic and innovative. Curated by renowned expert Dr. Sven Hauschke, director of the European Museum for Modern Glass in Rödental near Coburg, Germany, the special show will display a one-of-kind selection of perfectly designed glass objects and sculptures by 20 glass artists, including five who are exhibitors at EUNIQUE 2013. The designers from Germany, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Austria, France and Sweden include famous names such as Udo Zembok (France), Julius Weiland (Germany) and Tobias Møhl (Denmark), speaking for the high quality to which this special show aspires.

The grande dame of the premium international glass segment, Ann Wolff, will also honour EUNIQUE with her presence. Her works are found in all of the world’s major art collections, from the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art in Japan to the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum Bellerive in Zurich and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. EUNIQUE visitors will certainly be interested to see artworks by Ann Wolff exhibited next to those of her former student Julius Weiland. Another surprise to discover at JUST GLASS: for EUNIQUE 2013, renowned British glass designer James Lethbridge will design a light cascade of borosilicate glass measuring more than two metres, which will shine over the event like a poem of glass and light.

EUNIQUE has developed the tradition of presenting a European partner country as a special guest. Following in the footsteps of Belgium and Finland, in 2013 the Netherlands will be in the spotlight. In a fascinating presentation, 14 exhibitors from this design nation with a love of unusual materials and shapes will demonstrate why Dutch design has established itself as an internationally recognised trademark in only a few years. With surprising ideas and an extraordinary sense of quality, the Dutch designers strike an impressive balance between tradition and innovation, or use the provocative strength of their designs to break with the laws that usually govern materials and create and establish daring new works of art. A selection of design products, which were especially selected for EUNIQUE and which received the Dutch Design Award in 2012, will offer visitors a focused look at current developments in Dutch design in fields such as interior design, graphic design, architecture and fashion.

Since it was launched five years ago, EUNIQUE has seen significant growth in the fashion segment – as is reflected not only in the list of exhibitors representing top-quality fashion labels. An impressive array of fashions will also parade down the EUNIQUE catwalk on each day of the fair, featuring a multitude of exciting designs, brand-new fashion collections for him and her, fascinating combinations of materials, bold new interpretations of classics and casual recycled design. The names on the labels are as seductive as the designs themselves: Stoffbruch, Thierfelder Manufaktur, Laurence Leleux and Blue Paprika, for example.
