Intro
Art Jewelry Week 2026 is a meeting point where different perspectives lead to different discoveries. It is a space for exploring jewelry as an artistic practice and a medium of contemporary expression. Through exhibitions, conversations, workshops, and encounters, it seeks to generate reflection, context, and community around art jewelry and to contribute to its development in Mexico.

Art Jewelry Week 2026 is a platform dedicated to exploring, making visible, and generating conversation around jewelry as an artistic practice and a medium of contemporary expression. It arises from the need to broaden the context through which art jewelry is understood in Mexico: a medium in which the body, the object, materials, and ideas become territories for research and creation.

From Guadalajara, the week creates encounters among artists, students, institutions, and the public through exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and shared spaces. More than presenting objects, Art Jewelry Week seeks to raise questions, build references, and strengthen a community capable of proposing new perspectives on art jewelry in Mexico and connecting them with the international conversation.

2026 Curatorial Text: At the Edge of Beauty
In Mexico, where cultural richness coexists with a constant awareness of the ephemeral, creation takes on a sense of urgency. There is not always time to wait for certainty, perfection, or approval. Sometimes, to create is to respond before fully understanding.

At the Edge of Beauty begins with this tension. What happens when beauty ceases to be a stable idea and becomes an uncertain search? Can it emerge in discomfort, imperfection, precariousness, or even in what we initially reject?

Jewelry has a direct relationship with the body, which makes it an especially fertile territory for exploring these questions. An object can attract and unsettle at the same time; it can adorn, confront, protect, or discomfort. Its intimate scale does not limit its capacity to produce meaning.

This edition proposes moving toward the edges of beauty: toward the moment when familiar categories are no longer enough and the artist must act through intuition, material, and the body. To create with what is available, in the time available, without waiting for guarantees.

Perhaps beauty is not found in perfection, but precisely at that edge where we still do not know how to name it.

Activity Descriptions
Why Jewelry is Art
Conference + Exhibition, Philip Sajet.
A conversation about what allows us to understand jewelry beyond ornament, technique, or material value. Philip Sajet invites us to consider the piece through artistic intent, the body, experience, and the ideas it activates, opening questions about when and how a piece of jewelry can operate as a work of art.

Desborde
Collective Art Jewelry Exhibition.
Desborde brings together practices that expand the traditional boundaries of jewelry. The body, material, scale, use, and meaning become territories for exploration in works that do more than adorn: they seek to provoke new ways of seeing, wearing, and thinking about the object.

Open Studio + Final Critique
An open space to enter the creative process developed during The Necessity of the Ugly. Sketches, tests, decisions, mistakes, and works in progress reveal how an idea is transformed through material. The final critique brings conversation into the process as an essential part of constructing and interpreting a work.

NAO 4 — Inner Soul
Collective Exhibition.
Inner Soul explores the relationship between memory, material, time, and existence through jewelry. The works begin with what remains, transforms, or disappears, understanding the object as a record of an experience that can extend beyond the body that wears it.

The Necessity of the Ugly
Workshop, Philip Sajet.
Philip Sajet approaches beauty through contradiction. Error, incompleteness, the repulsive, and what we would normally reject become possible sources for creation. The workshop combines reflection, material experimentation, and technique to investigate new forms of beauty and translate them into a wearable work.

Artistic Practice Review
Philip Sajet.
Individual sessions of analysis and conversation for artists interested in examining their practice in greater depth. Through the work, processes, references, and intentions, Philip Sajet offers a critical perspective on the coherence of the practice, its possibilities for development, and the questions that may propel its next stage.
