The Schmuck exhibition planned from 10 to 14 March 2021, is canceled due to the continued restrictions in place to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Nevertheless, the selection for the year 2021 was again particularly interesting due to the comparison of the work of well-known and very well-known jewelry makers and the work of young designers who were selected by the Australian artist Helen Britton, who lives in Munich.
670 goldsmiths from 43 countries around the world have applied to take part in the special show "Schmuck 2021" at the International Crafts Fair in Munich. Given the current development around Covid 19, this is a very small decrease in the number of applicants compared to the previous year. The hope of being able to show the special show “Schmuck 2021” is very high. The interest is once again proof of how respected this event is in the context of contemporary jewelry and what importance is attached to it worldwide. Most of the applications came from the United States, more than from Germany, this year applications from Argentina and Japan, Korea and Taiwan were high, followed by Italy, Israel, the United Kingdom and Australia, Israel, Austria, Denmark, France Norway, the Netherlands, the Czech and Slovak Republics, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Turkey and the Russian Federation, Greece, Poland, Norway, Brazil, Belgium, South Africa and occasionally from Egypt, Hong Kong, the Urkaine , Oman and for the first time also from Ghana.
The selection for the year 2021 will again be particularly interesting due to the comparison of the work of well-known and very well-known jewelry makers and the work of young designers who were selected by the Australian artist Helen Britton, who lives in Munich. Overall, the jewelry artist's selection will show, from 10 to 14 March 2021, many positions in jewelry.
For the year 2021, a total of 63 participants from 25 countries will be invited to take part. For the first time, 18 participants take part in the special show “Schmuck 2021”. In terms of numbers, goldsmiths from Germany are most strongly represented, followed by Japan, Korea and Italy, but also Australia, Sweden, China, the USA, Great Britain, Switzerland, New Zealand, Urkaine, Russia, Hong Kong, Israel, Hungary and Ghana. The special show “Schmuck” is an important platform for making a name for yourself among international goldsmiths and for making contacts.
The Australian Robert Baines will be honored as a modern classic in 2021. He is a goldsmith and Professor Emeritus from RMIT University, Melbourne. Research into the ancient granulation technique created the basis for his extensive contemporary oeuvre in which humor and the subject of "fake" play a role. His multifaceted practice has included international exhibitions, publications and lectures for fifty years. In his home country he was awarded the title Living Treasure- His works are in numerous renowned public collections. The international and national prizes include the Bavarian State Prize (2005); Friedrich Becker Prize (2008), Herbert Hofmann Prize (2013) and participants in the Exempla - Master - Forum (2015) and the Cicely and Colin Rigg Crafts Prize in the National Gallery of Victoria (1997) and the Seppelt Contemporary Art Award (1998), Sydney.
With his work, Robert Baines has had a lasting impact on contemporary designer jewelry internationally.

For SCHMUCK 2021, the trade fair organiser GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH is designing a special map of the city with all events in galleries, studios and museums that will take place during the special exhibition in Munich. Alongside information on SCHMUCK and on Handwerk & Design within the framework of the Internationale Handwerksmesse, it lists other venues and events – and, of course, more details on other renowned special exhibitions at the IHM: EXEMPLA, TALENTE and MEISTER DER MODERNE. The printed city map will be available at the trade fair, and the online version will also be available from mid-February 2020 on the website www.ihm-handwerk-design.com.
Another reason for the jewellery scene to make the move from New Zealand through North America and all the way to Munich are the prestigious international galleries, which, under the title FRAME, set the stage for SCHMUCK like a splendid decoration and can be experienced together only at the Internationale Handwerksmesse.
