DEADLINE: 27/07/2022

1-day and 2-day short summer course at K2 Jewellery Academy is open to apply. Various technical workshops are provided by the team for all levels, from beginners, intermediate to advanced students.
Course programs:
Cost: £120 (all materials included; you’ll be given a strip of silver).
1-day course | Beginners
Have you ever wanted to try your hand in jewellery making? In this 1-day course, you will create your own ring and/or pendant from metal. You will measure and mark out your design on a sheet of metal and get an insight into all the fundamental jewellery techniques such as cutting, texturing, bending, soldering, and finishing including sanding or polishing. This course is ideal for beginners to learn the basics of jewellery making techniques and to explore creative skills.
Cost: £140 (most materials included; you can bring your own tools which you want to customize or be maintained).
1-day course | Intermediate and advanced
In this course, we will teach you how to make your own stone setting punch or chasing punch. Working with hard tool steel, you will be shown how to shape, grind and polish your tool and/or how to customize any of your own tools such as pliers. Further we will cover techniques of how to maintain your tools, for example sanding and polishing the face of your hammer, cleaning of machinery, tools and equipment.
Cost: £260 (materials included).
2 days course | All levels
You will start by exploring waxes, which are used for jewellery making and which are suitable for the lost wax casting process. If you have never worked with wax before, you will learn to carve a simple ring or a pendant. If you are a returning learner, you will be guided to produce a more complex piece. You will be shown how to create different surface textures on wax as well as pouring techniques to create interesting patterns and shapes.
To duplicate your design and to get multiple wax copies, you will be shown how to make a two-part silicone rubber mould, using the wax piece (master) you produced.
The course will also teach you techniques of how to fill your mould, with simple equipment, such as a hotplate and saucepan. By the end of the second day, you will have your original wax master, a silicone rubber mould as well as some wax copies of your original design, which you can adapt and manipulate to receive new design variations.
Cost: £150 (all materials included).
1-day course | Beginners, intermediate and advanced
Learn the ancient Korean gilding technique of Keum-Boo, which is used to apply thin sheets of gold to a silver surface to create a beautiful and unique piece of jewellery or object. Using gold foil on silver in this way can provide a richness of gold without the expense of working entirely in gold. It is also a useful way to add a little extra value to silver items. This one-day course will teach you how to prepare your silver for Keum-Boo, how to cut and prepare the gold foil, and how to apply the gold foil to your piece of jewelelry. This course is suitable for beginners with some knowledge about jewellery making, as well as accomplished jewellers who want to learn a new technique.
Gold foil and a small allocated amount of silver are included in the course fee. Students are welcome to bring their own samples or silver jewellery items to practice Keum-Boo techniques if they wish.
Cost: £280 (all materials included).
2 days course | Intermediate and advanced
In this course, you will be introduced to the ancient jewellery technique of Granulation. At the end of the course, you will know how to make silver granules and attach them to a piece of jewellery. You will also learn about the different ways of producing the different substances which are needed for granulation.
Each student will receive an allocated amount of fine silver for the base and for the granules. You are welcome to bring more of your own metal. Though be aware this needs to be either fine silver or gold (at least 18k gold).
