Bio
After studying ceramics and pedagogy, Ana Petrova's early career started as an art and textile teacher. During these years, she cultivated a great passion for textiles, made-to-measure clothing, and leather accessories, working with commissions and craft shops in the area.A profound mind change while living in Manchester, UK, resulted in more active artistic exploration in searching for her voice, driven by the idea of promoting a second life for materials like genuine leather, experimenting to relieve leather’s full potential.
In October 2024, the Indigo Vessel 2 ring was selected for Roma Jewellery Week Infinito Barrocco.
In December 2024, she participated in Cluster Contemporary Jewellery Fair in London.
Statement
I was born into a long line of makers with exceptional skills in fabric weaving, tailoring, and shoe making, the oldest art forms and functional crafts. These skills shaped my interest in design and applied arts and my appreciation of talent combined with interpersonal skills. I believe this combination unavoidably gives the works their character.Experimenting with genuine leather offcuts naturally led me to contemporary jewellery. Playing and creating volumes out of flat pieces of leather, I found a way to express myself and enter this parallel universe where all sorts of shapes and meanings exist. I feel at ease and connected. However, the process can sometimes be intense, and I become attached to every single piece I make.
My collection "Vessels" reflects on forms observed in organic life, bold iconic fashion and architecture. I often return to the concept, provoked by an idea or having something new to say. Most designs are, in general, quite minimalist, with attention to their ergonomic aspect; they are large and voluminous yet light to wear and durable. Made out of neglected, discarded material, my works continue the conversation around what is precious and valuable in modern jewellery.
