Statement
Through my work, I explore the relationship between the body, movement, and place. I am interested in the meaning of skin as a boundary between the inner self and the external world, a surface through which we experience vulnerability, protection, and connection. The surgical scalpel appears in my work as a symbol of introspection and revelation, an act of uncovering layers to reach understanding and healing. My practice often takes the form of tools, objects, and wearable pieces that function as extensions of the self. These works create a space of interaction between the body and its environment, transforming jewellery and objects into tools of protection and defence.Roots-Mapping my place.
I am interested in place. Our place always lives in our memory; it follows us defines us. Urbanisation and the construction of airports, highways, and railways are transforming the natural environment. As a result, the coherence of the space is disrupted, and the boundaries between the natural and artificial environments are redefined. I create topographies by sewing thread onto canvas or drawing with ink. I use steel to emphasise the human intervention in the natural environment. I also create wearable landscapes that connect body, place, and experience.
To try meticulously to retain something, to cause something to survive; to wrest a few precise scraps from the void as it grows, to leave somewhere a furrow, a trace, a mark or a few signs. - George Perec -
