Statement
The area I am interested in is to make audiences take a look, through my work, at the emotions we feel and we know but do not actually recognize. I believe that there is a type of collective unconsciousness buried inside our subconscious and the forgotten memories of ourselves from time immemorial. The interest in huge themes such as life and death blooms through the encounters with microscopic and unfamiliar things that are hidden in the familiarity around us. I intend to share such reasoning through emotions with my viewers. The process of putting metal layers on the object carved out of wax in a bath by electroforming means life creation. The thickness of piled layers represents time, and colors mainly expressed in my works mean the accumulation of time. Through this process, my works are born with powerful vitality beyond the flow of time.
Fifth Season – Ottchil
Accumulation, creation and protection - Thickness of piled layers represent time, and several layers by Ottchil (Korean lacquer) colors mainly expressed in my works mean the accumulation of time. Ottchil is a Korean traditional Craft technic which used to protect surfaces vulnerable to an external stimulus at the same time layers could be accumulated itself to make a form. With Electroforming and Ottchil techniques that share the same process, I create my layers, and those layers create a new life and protect itself. Through this process, my works are born with powerful vitality beyond the flow of time.
