Bio
Matilde Mozzanega is a Contemporary Jewellery Designer from Milan based in London. Central Saint Martins’ Jewellery Design graduate with a First Class Hons Degree in 2018, she then spent one year in Florence attending an MFA Degree at Alchimia School of Jewellery and Body Ornaments. She currently produces her own pieces and works as a Designer and Sustainability Coordinator for the London-based jewellery brand Completedworks. She is also a freelance Jewellery & Manufacturing tutor at the British Academy of Jewellery in London.
Her work sits within the context of Contemporary Jewellery & Sustainability. She is in fact interested in the qualities of non-precious materials, and how to transform and repurpose them. Her pieces challenge the idea of preciousness and value within our society by juxtaposing precious materials with recycled ones, giving the latter a second life.
Statement
Her new series titled Chromo-Dope (launched during MJW 2022) explores the aesthetic of cosmetic packaging and pills in the form of a Jewellery blister. A playful, colourful, interactive jewellery/drug allowing the wearer to use & re-use – not dispose! By breaking the social stigma around mental health, stress, and anxiety - Chromo-dope looks to encourage openness and conversation around these crucial matters. Cherishing one's mind as well as one's body is the underlying message of the whole collection. Her collection Transparent Waste – inspired by traditional jewellery, a playful and interactive way of repurposing Swarovski crystals within recyclable plastic pouches - has been exhibited internationally in galleries and shows like Schmuck 2019, IHATECONTEMPORARYJEWELLERY in Australia and at Romanian Jewellery Week 2.0 (Bucharest). It was featured in Vogue Italia Magazine and Current Obsession Magazine.
Moreover, her Cardboard Cutouts Collection, which explores the transformative magical properties of industrial cardboard tubing, won the LVMH Sustainable Award 2018 in partnership with CSM. It was also exhibited in various locations during the LDW-18, such as Mínt Gallery, Craeftiga (British Craft Pavillion), Venice Design Week (2020) – and it was recently featured in an exclusive edition of Client Magazine US #14.
