Bio

Min-Ji Cho is a contemporary jewellery artist based in Munich. She completed her Masters at the Royal College of Art in London in 2007 and moved to Germany. She set up her studio in 2009. Her aim is to investigate contemporary notions of preciousness, through exploring different fabricating processes and transforming materials into one-of-a-kind pieces.

Statement

In a captivating metamorphosis, an inventive amalgamation of metals and gemstones transform into one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery. Approaching a craft imbued with an innovative lineage with a contemporary vision, I challenge the conceptions and intellectual values of aesthetics, value, and material in favor of designs that embrace a sense of ambiguity. Simultaneously modern and primordial, these real materials embody a spirit of nonconformity.
The enchanting forms and textures that materialize within my work radiate with this rebellious energy and forward-thinking attitude. Instilled in the act of creation, I allow the fabrication process to be instinctual. Within the organic curves and the expressive surfaces, we can see how each piece has undergone a journey all its own. Immersed in the unexpected and allowing the materials to evolve into unforeseeable yet extraordinary forms, it becomes clear that no two pieces are alike. Continually inspired by the intricacies, small details, and nuances that can be imparted upon these decorative forms, they emerge a testament to the power of individuality.
