Intro
The theme of the competition was 'Symbol of Hope'. The interpretation of the theme and the use of amber in the work were the main criteria for the selection of works for the exhibition. The competition jury was exceptionally agreeable and unanimously awarded the Grand Prix to Tadeusz Jaskowiak, the Silver Award went to Miriam Arentz and the Amber Award went to Teresa Dantas from Portugal. The jury also decided to award an Honorable Mention to Tor Legernaes.
The Jury:
  • Katharina Kielmann, Vienna - art historian, and curator of jewelry exhibitions.
  • Carina Shoshtary, Munich - goldsmith, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
  • Anders Ljungberg, Stockholm - professor at the Department of Jewellery and Objects at Konstfack University.
  • Sergiusz Kuchczynski, Łódź - head of the Jewellery Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź.

The two-stage jury deliberations of the 27th AMBERIF DESIGN AWARD International Competition for Jewellery Design with Amber concluded on 12.02.2024. A record number of works were submitted for the competition: 229 artists from 32 countries worldwide submitted 295 works. Artists from all over Europe, as well as non-European countries, including Australia, Argentina, China, Iran, Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the USA, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates, entered the competition to qualify for the exhibition and the award.

The jury's task was to select 26 works for the exhibition and to award prizes: The Grand Prix of the competition, the Silver Prize and the Amber Pirce.

The Jury awarded the following prizes:

Grand Prize:
sponsored by the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk PLN 10,000 (2150 €).
  • Tadeusz Jaskowiak, Poland.
The 'Inclusion' pendant has as a central element a silver gun trigger. Placed in a strategic place, a piece of natural amber prevents the gun from firing, while simultaneously being the work's main, decorative element. The extraordinary power of the work's message and universal appeal moved the jury, and the high quality of the work's craftsmanship only confirmed their decision.

Silver Prize: 1 kg of silver funded by the Gdańsk International Fair. Her brooch 'Radiance' resembles a jigsaw puzzle composed of silver and amber elements. Amber is the centrepiece of the brooch: its luminosity symbolizes the inherent optimism and radiance of hope. Contrasted with the dark, solid silver elements, it creates a fascinating visual dialogue between light and shadow, optimism and sadness. The judges were enthralled by the poetic nature of this more abstract approach to the theme of the competition and by the technical perfection.

Amber Prize:  0.5 kg of amber funded by the International Amber Association. The jury appreciated the beauty and rich narrative of the work "Empyrean of Eden", which is both an object and jewelry. The part detached from the object becomes a separate work - a pendant. Its shape brings to mind a lamp, and amber, which is its light, adds depth and symbolism. The work's title refers to the heavenly sphere, referring to spirituality and the hope of achieving perfection.

The Jury decided to award the following honorary mentions:
  • Tor Legernaes, Sweden.
For the "Eternal Flame of Hope" ring. According to the jurors, this work shows the enormous potential of jewelry as a carrier of meanings and symbols. What caught their attention was the creator's ability to convey maximum content in a minimal form.
