Attendant Pendants
Lines move rapidly through space, out of their motion grow three-dimensional webs, surprising shapes, maverick pendants. Soft, pliant and elastic, vigorous creatures that turn and whirl on bodies - as bodies, taking up each movement, carrying on the motion in their own rhythm and letting it fade away ... pendant attendants!
Doris Betz
Compounding fractions
The present series of works relies primarily on recycled paper as the source material, collected in fragments and compiled. In nature, I have observed, and always been intrigued by, the cyclical motion of growth aiming for and reaching the fleeting moment of its realization, the subsequent consummation of this moment, decay and a new beginning.
In a way, I can relate to my new series of pieces as some kind of selfportraits. They are particularly intimate, and I hide in them parts of my
inner thoughts, fears, obsessions, ideas, and fantasies. The way that I work in these particular pieces allows me to hide in them some nonattainable information. It is made of drawings and writings of my intimate thoughts that I am sealing in an unreachable place, like a diary
that is written in an encoded language. After completing my drawing, I cut it into fragments of material and then I start to build the form. I
connect the pieces of the drawing together in a way that creates a new abstract three-dimensional form.
