Intro
In the Modern Collection area, the internationally esteemed jewellery artist Sam Tho Duong, who lives in Pforzheim, will be showcasing his own work in dialogue with pieces created by ten jewellery designer friends of his.

Artist list

David Bielander, Alexander Blank, Helen Britton, Paul Derrez, Mirjam Hiller, Jiro Kamata, Daniel Kruger, Silke Spitzer, Christoph Straube, Sam Tho Duong, Lifu Zhou
They have their roots in Europe, Asia and Africa, and worked as instructors at jewellery academies in Germany or abroad. Some of them were artist in residence or have won awards, are represented in museum collections and have exhibited in many places around the world.

Sam Tho Duong’s comment about how he selected the artists:
I allowed myself to be guided by the feelings their jewellery evoked in me. I was fascinated greatly by these jewellery artists at least during one of their creative periods. The exhibits were created from different materials and in some cases using quite unusual techniques. The focus is on materials that are unconventional for jewellery and values are called into question.

While Hand-selected by Sam Tho Duong will replace the jewellery created after 1950; the Art Nouveau and Art Deco exhibits remain unchanged. Both themes revolve around genuine values, symbolic meaning, and feelings or longings. Pieces of jewellery may be regarded as luxury objects, but they radiate a special aura that they derive from the ideas people associate with them. In collaboration with all those involved, the Jewellery Museum will be spotlighting what they consider valuable.
