Intro
Across millennia, pearls—with their soft, luminous glow— have accompanied the evolution of human culture. From ancient Asian legends to Mediterranean myths, they transcend geography to form a shared aesthetic language.

Historically, pearls held layered meanings: symbols of elite status, authority, refinement, purity, and spiritual perfection. These overlapping identities reveal the material’s enduring symbolic power.

Since the 20th century, with the rise of cultured pearls and global modernity, they have shifted from sacred and aristocratic contexts into popular culture, continually gaining new interpretations in fashion and expressions of personal identity.

Today, pearls are no longer bound to traditional elegance. Contemporary artists explore them through fresh perspectives, as materials of identity, transformation, and even subtle rebellion. “House of Pearl” brings together ten contemporary jewellery artists to re-interpret how this ancient material continues to shape contemporary narratives.
