On the occasion of Pavel Opočensky’s 65th birthday the German Goldsmiths' House is showing an extensive retrospective of the artist's work with almost 200 pieces of jewellery and design drawings.
Artist list
Pavel Opočenský
Pavel Opočensky belongs to the great avant-gardists of the Prague jewellery scene since the 1970’s. His versatile work stands for his very own style of jewellery design. In his numerous brooches, the material experiment is always in the foreground. The refined sanding techniques of jade and the special processing of wood and plastic are shown. It is not unusual for these materials to come from everyday products, which are given a completely new value by the artistic hand. Using extremely sophisticated techniques, Pavel Opočenský works with stainless steel or titanium. It is always fascinating to see what he elicits from titanium, a material that is extremely difficult to handle. His results are not only wearable pieces of jewellery, but go far beyond that as jewellery sculptures.
