Grupo Broca is made up of eight artists with different backgrounds, who have in common the language of contemporary jewellery as their main form of expression. Its work dynamics comprises periodic meetings involving study, critical analysis and practical research. Through exercises of reflection and investigation, each member of the group deepens her own personal project, which is built by mixing personal repertory and collective agency, promoting a body of work that is the result of dialogue and questioning.
For this exhibition, created during a pandemic period, Grupo Broca's focus reflects on the history of Brazil. Considering the panorama of a cultural, scientific and ecological dismantling, issues such as economic and social imbalance, feminism, segregation, freedom of expression and gender and the preservation of ethnic minorities, claim for changes. Structural marks, wounds never healed, which remain in a body called Brazil. Among subjective and collective interpretations, the group discusses the complex formation of a country, with a colonial past, an unstable future and a present in suspension.
“Ferida Aberta (Open Wound) is the title that embodies this complex urgency that life brings us”.
Opening event:
August 6, 2022, Saturday, 13.00 - 18.30h
Visiting hours:
August 7 - September 2, 10.00 - 18.30h
