Intro
Abran Cancha is the third edition of the biennial which has been the largest in every sense so far. 25 exhibitions will take place in Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. A variety of materials, concepts, viewpoints and conclusions can be appreciated both online and in place. New spaces to reach broader audiences interested in Latin American contemporary jewelry.
This project started six years ago in 2015 after endless conversations following an idea that sounded quixotic at that time: Our goal was for Latin America to be the place where we shared our work, our viewpoints and reflections. And now in 2021 we are presenting “Abran Cancha”, the third biennial which has been the largest in every sense so far.

The pandemic that has caused so much grief and altered all our plans, forced us to develop a new framework for the biennial which would allow both online and in place shows. Different simultaneous exhibitions take place in many cities along the American continent enabling our work to be shown both locally and globally.

All the information can be accessed from the especially developed web platform, any limit in time so it can serve as future reference for museums, galleries, curators and interested audiences.

Contest Abran Cancha
The main event of the Biennial is called “Abran Cancha” in relation to our identity and the driving force of Latin American contemporary jewelry. 71 artists were selected out of 139 applications, and 114 pieces out of 275. The outcome is a selection of work from Mexican, Colombian, Brazilian, Chilean and Argentinian artists.

Symposiums
Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th September
During each Biennial a weekend is devoted to discussing issues connected to our everyday practice as contemporary jewelry artists. We reflect on our work and our relationship with our context. In the first and second biennial, the discussion revolved around our artwork, our creative processes, group work and collectives and the everlasting question about what contemporary jewelry is. This time, the topics go from the value given to jewelry pieces to public policies, individual practice and resilience as artists.
