Artist list

Sol Hill
Hill presents a collection of what he calls, Metagraphs, where writings of light evolve into archetypal expressions.

In his work, the artist harnesses false exposure, or what is commonly known as ‘digital noise’. Hill embraces the noise while seeing the beauty and potential in what is, on the whole, considered an interference and inconvenience of photography.

When I started investigating digital noise, I was asking myself, ‘What can I do with this? What is digital noise? What is it technically and conceptually?’ Technically, digital noise is anything that interferes with what you are actively seeking. It’s interference. I took from that an inspiration in the idea that it is essentially the potential for all new discoveries. When the signal resolves out of the noise, it turns to something new.” - Sol Hill

Experimenting in the creative flux of his field, Hill came to uncover much more than an aesthetically interesting image. Through his imagery, Hill has discovered energies in our atmosphere, not visible to the naked eye.

Out of ambiguous figures, architecture and landscape, Hill procures digital artifacts. In a myriad of ways, the artist captures the imprint of energies; endemic energy stirred by a frenzy of electrons in the pixel ports of his device, or cosmic noise routed from the outside environment. From this, Hill reveals energy’s underlying relationship to matter, understanding energy as universal soul in our living stratosphere, beyond what one can see.

My works are often visually ambiguous, you get a sense of a figure, but you can’t tell gender, maybe there’s a hint of architecture, a hint of gesture, or not. There’s a lot that you can ponder without all the other details to distract you. It becomes this universal, archetypal wonder. It allows each person to fill in what’s happening in their own interpretation of the work.” - Sol Hill

Through a resulting matrix of texture and collisions of color, his visuals become visceral, ones that unearth the underpinnings of reality. Images uncovered are portrayals of the living experience, and a constant dance with nature’s vitality.

In his metagraphy, the artist breaches the passage of understanding into the realm of transformation.

For me, my images that record all the things that we don’t see are like creating a language to talk about mystery. To talk about philosophical or spiritual questions that are beyond the everyday life boundaries of perception. If we want to expand ourselves, expand our knowledge, our science, and our personal growth, we have to remember that we are living in this great mystery.” - Sol Hill
