Intro
Now preparing for its third event, EUNIQUE aims to establish itself as the leading fair for applied arts and design in Europe. The main focus of EUNIQUE 2011 will once again be on showcasing singular creative potential, from established designers and young, up-and-coming talent to new, future-oriented design strategies.
EUNIQUE 2011
Just two years ago, word went around the extensive European craftwork and design scene that Messe Karlsruhe had taken on the challenge of offering an international platform for applied arts.
When it was first held in the summer of 2009, EUNIQUE – the international trade fair for applied arts and design – was primarily known to insiders and top designers. However, the enormous response that it received from over 400 leading international designers from 21 countries in 2010 is clinching proof that EUNIQUE succeeded in striking an important chord in the sector as a whole. This event is where the cream of European craftwork and design comes together. EUNIQUE is not only seen by exhibitors, trade visitors and the general public as a high-class fair, but above all as a future-oriented European forum for outstanding design quality.
Now preparing for its third event, EUNIQUE aims to establish itself as the leading fair for applied arts and design in Europe. The main focus of EUNIQUE 2011, which will be held at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Center between 27 and 29 May 2011, will once again be on showcasing singular creative potential, from established designers and young, up-and-coming talent to new, future-oriented design strategies. EUNIQUE sees itself as the driving force activating creative prosperity, building a bridge between the creative production process and commercial success, between craftwork and design, and between unique creations and small-volume series. Themed special presentations such as “Top of Europe”, the “EUNIQUE Fashion Show” or presentations by international design schools and up-and-coming artists are more than just indications of the design trends to be seen at EUNIQUE 2011. More importantly, these send a signal for all those who are active in the fields of applied arts, craftwork and design to use this exceptional fair as an opportunity to present their creations to the international market.
Around half of the exhibitors at EUNIQUE 2009 and 2010 have applied to take part again next year. The closing date for applications to participate in EUNIQUE 2011, Europe’s largest unique design and craftwork fair, is 14 January 2011. As with the first two events, participants will be selected by an international panel of expert judges based on the "quality first" principle. “Once again, the composition of our panel of judges is designed to guarantee a varied and high-quality selection of works at EUNIQUE”, explains KMK Management Board Spokesperson Britta Wirtz, “and this unique event will offer visitors the chance to see highly exclusive applied art and design works from all over Europe”.

EUNIQUE 2011 will also host the WCC EUNIQUE Award for outstanding works of art, which has been presented by the World Crafts Council-Europe every year since 1992. The selection criteria for the WCC Europe Award are excellent craftsmanship, choice of materials, originality and adherence to relevant exhibition themes. Since 2010, the prize has been known as the WCC Europe EUNIQUE Award, as it is now set to be a permanent fixture at EUNIQUE.
