Open Call for SMCK On Reel, video festival at Romanian Jewelry Week 2022

Following the successful première at Munich’s "Schmuck jewelry week in July 2022 with more than 60 international artists, designers, galleries, and institutions, SMCK On Reel video festival presents a new blend of videos inspired by jewelry at Romanian Jewelry Week 2022. 
 
The open call aims at jewelry artists, designers, galleries, and institutions who want to show their videos in SMCK On Reel’s second edition during Romanian Jewelry Week (ROJW) in Bucharest. The festival takes place from 6-9 October 2022.
ROJW is organized by Assamblage National Jewelry Association, dedicated to the contemporary jewelry field in Romania and worldwide. ROJW is integrated into the international map of jewelry events alongside active partners such as Milano Jewelry Week, Budapest Jewelry Week, The Lisbon Jewelry Biennale, Legnica Silver Festival, and many more.
 
All videos will be presented in SMCK On Reel at ROJW, plus the participants will be featured on the SMCK On Reel website and in SMCK Magazine #8.
 
SMCK On Reel, the first international video festival inspired by jewelry and applied art, presents video works in the context of rapidly changing social and aesthetic values. SMCK On Reel highlights tradition and future, memory and identity, environmental destruction and material awareness, femininity and feminism, gender, and social conventions. 
The video festival features videos by Karl Fritsch, Olga Butenop, DIVA Museum Antwerpen, Pureun Culture Foundation, Legnica SILVER Festival, Grassi Museum, and many others. SMCK On Reel also screens videos by Ukrainian jewelry artists giving a vivid account of their life and work in the war zone.
 
Reels, the art of the moving image, deploy the artist’s narrative and enable the public to indulge in the maker’s work. Jewelry, crafts, and objects not only serve as a starting point for personal stories but also as a cultural catalyst that can change social values.


How to Apply:
Artists and institutions or organizations who wish to participate in SMCK On Reel at Romanian Jewelry Week are asked to submit their video (maximum 3 minutes long) plus a short statement and biography. No application fee is charged.
 
Selected artists pay a participation fee of 80,00 €.
Selected galleries or institutions pay a participation fee of 120,00 €.

Artists or galleries, institutions, and organizations may apply for SMCK On Reel at Romanian Jewelry Week AND/OR at Grassimesse Leipzig.
Artists who participate in both video festivals in Bucharest and Leipzig pay 175 € instead of 200 €
Galleries, institutions, and organizations that participate in both events pay 375 € instead of 410 €.
