ZLR Betriebsimperium is a nomadic art platform working with jewellery, sculpture, performance, installation and textile art. Based in Greece and Germany, ZLR Betriebsimperium actively promotes cultural exchange, creative research, and an interdisciplinary approach to art and jewellery.
ZLR Betriebsimperium considers jewellery the perfect art medium to communicate ideas and to cross borders - physically, mentally, and culturally.
As ZLR Betriebsimperium, we curate exhibitions, open instant galleries, offer specialized workshops and training for art professionals, run Artist-In-Residence programs, and grant awards to encourage excellence.
Our residencies, workshops, and exhibitions address artists, designers, makers, crafters, performers, photographers, schools and academia, cultural institutions and private collections, as well as art historians and critics who wish to broaden their field of practice and get inspired by the concepts, philosophy and creative spirit of Greek culture - ancient, medieval and contemporary.
In our curated projects, we combine travel with work and exhibition with experimentation. We cooperate with galleries, museums, and state institutions, as well as with ephemeral art venues.
Partners of our recent projects include: Grassi Museum Leipzig, Umweltbundesamt (German Environment Agency), Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein Munich, Bauhaus Foundation Dessau, Altes Museum Berlin, Onassis Benefit Foundation, Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Thikwa Werkstatt für Theater und Kunst Berlin, Legnica Silver Festival, Stilwerk Hamburg, The City of Munich etc.
ZLR Betriebsimperium is Christoph Ziegler (Z) and Loukia Richards (LR), both visual artists and jewellery makers, living and working in Greece and Germany.
