The Françoise van den Bosch Foundation is named after the Dutch jewelry designer Françoise van den Bosch (1944-1977) and was established in 1980 by family members, colleagues and friends of Françoise in memory of her. In the spirit of Françoise, who as a young jewelry designer made such an impression with her innovative and unconventional approach to goldsmithing, the Foundation is committed to giving young, early and mid-career jewelry designers the opportunity to develop their artistic practice.
The goal of the Foundation is to stimulate contemporary jewelry design, give impetus to the field and bring jewelry to the attention of the public. It achieves this through various activities and initiatives, including the Françoise van den Bosch Collection, an Artist-in-Residence program, and the biennial Françoise van den Bosch Award.
The foundation acquires work by emerging talents and early and mid-career makers from both the Netherlands and abroad, jewellery and objects from award winners, and pieces designed on commission for the foundation.
Every year the Françoise van den Bosch Foundation invites jewelry artists from outside the Netherlands to apply for a three month working period in Amsterdam (March – May). The studio is generously provided by jewelry maker Rian de Jong and her spouse Herman Marres.
>> Residency Programme
Once every two years the Françoise van den Bosch Prize is awarded to an internationally influential jewelry artist with a significant body of work, on the recommendation of an independent jury. It is a 'mid-career award' - an award for an evolving body of work - to support makers with an impressive track record in supporting the continuation of their artistic practice. The award consists of a sum of money, a solo exhibition at Museum Arnhem (Netherlands) and a ceremony and symposium at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (The Netherlands).
Françoise van den Bosch Collection
The Françoise van den Bosch collection consists of approximately 400 objects – including jewelry, photographs, and installations – and continues to grow each year. The foundation’s collection is rooted in Françoise’s inheritance, which includes her own work, the many material experiments she conducted, and works by contemporaries with whom she exchanged objects. Over the years, the foundation has acquired works by emerging talents, as well as early- and mid-career makers from both the Netherlands and abroad. The collection also includes jewelry and objects from award winners, and pieces designed on commission for the foundation. Additionally, donations further enrich the collection that is on long-term loan to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
