About the Puyuan International Contemporary Jewellery Art and Design Biennale
Puyuan Fashion Town, conceived by the same master planning and design team behind Wuzhen, is its "twin town" with a distinct focus: while Wuzhen centers on theater, Puyuan is dedicated to fashion. Adjacent yet thematically complementary, the two towns share an operational model while maintaining independent identities.
The Wuzhen Theater Festival, by deeply integrating culture into tourism, has validated the success of the "historic town + cultural event/industry" model. In 2023, ten years after its establishment, the number of online ticket purchases has exceeded 320,000, making it the most prominent cultural ancient town IP in China.
As China’s largest woolen sweater market and knitwear hub, Puyuan embraces "fashion" as its core identity—expanding its scope to embody "a lifestyle of quality and aesthetic substance." The town is evolving into an integrated ecosystem for fashion, encompassing design, showcases, exhibitions, trade, consumption, and immersive experiences, while positioning itself as a high-end tourism destination.
Against this backdrop, the 1st Puyuan International Contemporary Jewellery Art and Design Biennale was conceived. Building upon the cultural heritage of the ancient town and leveraging the JCC International Contemporary Jewellery Center’s innovative expertise—alongside the academic prestige of the Triple Parade International Contemporary Jewellery Biennale—this event will feature eight national pavilions (China, UK, Netherlands, Germany, USA, Japan, South Korea, Thailand) and four parallel exhibitions (Jewellery & Heritage, Jewellery & Future, Jewellery & Education, Jewellery & Fashion).
Through this framework, the biennale aims to present the most comprehensive creative landscape of contemporary jewellery art and design within a global context, unlocking the infinite potential of jewellery as a material-cultural medium in shaping the future of fashion.
