Cecile Feilchenfeldt: An Endless Story

A ribbon or band – a narrow length of fabric – can be endlessly long and versatile in the uses to which it can be put. In this workshop with Cecile Feilchenfeldt, you will have an opportunity to make your own ribbons by tearing, cutting, stitching, painting, gluing, embroidering or folding. A range of different textiles, threads, foils, etc. will be available, which you can experimentally compose into the basic materials for your ribbons or bands. In a second step, you will combine the ribbons, transforming a line – the band – into a plane, a textile. Whether by loose links into a web, point by point or closely woven, knotted, knitted, or layered. These combinations may remain visible as an element of your design. You will find a rhythm that conforms with the character of the bands you have developed – transparent or fluffy, playful or systematic. Even graphic patterns may emerge, linear compositions or optical illusions, which can employed in a shawl or body ornament or a blanket for your room.
