Bio
A designer with a strong, innovative, and creative style, widely recognized both nationally and internationally. She studied jewelry design at the Escola Massana in Barcelona. She collaborated as a stylist with the designer Antonio Miró, specializing in accessories. In 1971, she began developing silver jewelry designs with organic shapes and anatomical resonances. In 1977, she designed her first silver jewelry collection, inspired by the forms of the female body: the earlobe, the breast, braids, and the hair parting. That same year, she traveled to New York, where she began her solo career with her first client: Francesca Gallery on Madison Avenue. In October 1978, she presented her first collection under the Chelo Sastre label in Barcelona that she is, since today, succesfully running.Statement
I knew I would dedicate myself to design after the huge impact I felt when I saw Georg Jensen's store in Barcelona. I first worked making fashion accessories, but later I became interested in jewelry, designing it in shapes that adapt to the body. With my work, I've always hoped to convey sensations like challenge, risk, freedom... which is the spirit with which I make them. I believe my jewelry awakens a certain curiosity; it's affectionate; it accompanies people daily over time. I work primarily with silver, which is more ductile, also with gold, lacquer, and recently with porcelain. Ideas come to me from silence; I imagine or dream them, and then I work with them, bringing them to life. I am often inspired by architecture; many of the jewels are the result of abstraction, so I was able to capture the architectural forms of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao in a ring.-
