Bio
Flore Soria is based in Poitiers, France. After studying social sciences and archaeology at university, she made a radical change of direction by training as a leather craftswoman at the prestigious Gregoire Ferrandi School in Paris. How did her steps lead her from leather crafts to jewellery? Probably by the pleasure of discovering new fields and having fun while creating. By exploring different ways of working with leather, sometimes to the point of making this material unrecognizable, she creates objects of adornment that question and surprise.Statement
"Being creative is not so much the desire to do something as the listening to that which wants to be done: the dictation of the materials. " - Anni Albers. This quote from Anni Albers perfectly illustrates what I experience in my artistic practice.
I make jewellery from my material of choice, leather, and I often feel what seems to be the will of this matter to be transformed by my hands.
Based on this feeling, the main purpose of my work is to explore technical variations to create wearable objects with this great material.
As a living material with amazing plastic properties, and a wide variety of textures, thicknesses and resistance, leather offers multiple technical choices in the way it can be worked. From this great variability emerges a play of reciprocal influences between the technical approaches chosen and the aesthetic directions followed. Artistic conception and the mobilisation of know-how are intimately linked.
I want, through my jewellery, to experience the pleasure of gesture and touch, to explore visual and tactile contrasts, and to pay homage to a material with great experimental characteristics.
