I find inspiration in things that we can see but are somehow unobtainable, untouchable, unreachable. Clouds, outer space, natural phenomena, but also natural textures and organic shapes. I need to materialize my inner landscape into my own imagined reality. My process is very intuitive. I start by working directly in the material, mainly balsa wood, a lightweight and transformable material, with a rough idea in my mind. Forms emerge and evolve spontaneously while shaping the wood. Then layer by layer of pigments and varnish they grow until they mutate into something else. The material, for me, is inspiration and challenge at the same time. It is transformed in such a way that it changes completely, until it becomes something else entirely until it becomes jewellery…
Karposoma series - The visible part of a work done out of sight.
The inspiration for this series came from the intricate fruiting bodies of tree fungi, and the invisible connections that underlie their growth and existence. As I worked, I was struck by the way that the elements seemed to emerge from a hidden, unseen realm – a reminder of the interconnectedness that underlies all life. Each piece is a testament to the power of persistence and determination, as the tree fungi forge their way through challenging conditions to reach the light. By bringing these hidden, unseen connections to light, I remind myself that the work done on the inside will eventually show on the outside too.
