Intro
Herman Hermsen conveys his viewpoint through graphic motifs using the Diasec method and manipulates the key points of the image through additional applications, mainly synthetic gemstones.
He finds his motives in art, sport and daily life. Thus, a reflection of all areas of life is present in his work. In “Mona Lisa Chained”, 2015, he complements the famous painting with a pearl necklace and a ring; both added to the surface of the Acrylic image. He uses the same concept in the image “The girl with the big black nose-piercing”, 2015, referring to the well-known painting from Vermeer ironically and transposing it to our modern-day era. Hermsen dressed her with a black pearl that remains invisible in the dark and nose piercing in the form of a blue gem. A motif from the field of sport is the work, “Men in Rain” from 2015, where he intensifies the character of the rain in a snapshot of a cycling race through the addition of seven clear and round stones. Through “Picture This”, Herman Hermsen can form an image, an idea, in the observer´s mind; contemplative and with a good portion of humour.
