Once attached to a human host, jewelry has great potential power. We now see an alternative model of jewelry emerging – from the bench to the street. A broadening context that enables jewelry to return to its place in everyday life - as useful device, social link or call for action, not only as testament to the taste of the individual wearer, but also as a sign of change in the wider world.
/ Kevin Murray, Signs Of Change. Jewellery Designed To Make A Better World.

How different are we human beings from each other? How many of those concerned about collective traumas will respond to our challenge focusing on revenge, on a righteous justice? The surprise is that healing, normality, beauty, and other ideals of a natural world have been the filters of perception and remembrance of the atrocious events. / David Sandu - curator of Lucida Camera contest and exhibition.
Camera Lucida - a project signed by Assamblage - The Romanian National Contemporary Jewelry Association that brought together 20 Romanian and international designers from USA, Costa Rica, South Korea, France, Spain, Mexico, Finland, Italy, Spain, selected after an international project competition, around a common theme: the upcoming commemorating 100 years since the ending of World War I. The contest and the resulting exhibition is a challenge to regard jewelry as a new way to convey meaning, as a metaphor for communication, symbols, and language in contemporary design, in a conceptual discourse about the assumption of the common past and cultural identity.
On Wednesday, 18th of October, at Galateca Contemporary Art Gallery in Bucharest, Romania, Assamblage will present the results of the international contemporary jewelry competition Lucida. Organized with the support of the AFCN - The Administration of the National Cultural Fund, the exhibition will be opened until 3 November 2017.
The international jury that coordinated the selection of designers and the curatorial team of the exhibition consisted of:
The project started at Romanian Design Week 2017 through the ROOM 40 - Deciphering contemporary jewelry design exhibition, and during September 13 - 30, 2017, it was presented at MNIR - The National Museum of Romanian History. A curatorial selection of Romanian designers was also presented during Joya Barcelona 2017 part of Assamblage Collective.

Why do we wear jewelry here and now? What does onetry assert? What side of us are we trying to reveal? What is to expect from the others look upon us? Jewels expose us, confine us, restrict us, hurt us even smother us. Its sole presence protect us too, it is the distraction we need to conceal complexes.

Brooch: Motion, 2017
Part of: Camera Lucida Contest
The direction of my work is to produce 'moving jewellery' that are motivated by human movements in the production methods of 3D printers. I feel they are alive in the movement of the person and feel the beauty in the movement of the living. My 'moving jewellery' are a medium to respond to the wearer's living.

Brooch: From here you will drink..., 2017
Model and painted leather, cotton tape, cord, varnished brass and sterling silver.
Part of: Camera Lucida Contest
The central idea of the brooch is based on the transmission of knowledge from a cultural perspective and survival from a physical point. Two points in common apply to all people. The piece is created with light materials. It shows a children’s vision, soft and innocent vision of the mother’s breast.

Necklace: Priors, 2017
Part of: Camera Lucida Contest
The angular parts remind some viewers of a power armor. It is a wearable that attracts the looks of people at the opera, or at agamescom: enticing in very different contexts while not necessarily versatile. A necklace meant for blurring categories that define social group appurtenance.
