The jewellery we wear indicates who we are, or want to be. Engagement rings, medals and inherited jewellery all convey a message of identity, personal history and social affiliation. But jewellery is also an art form in its own right, and the artists like to reflect on the concept of jewellery and to energetically test its limits. In terms of materials, modern jewellery encompasses everything from precious metals to plastic, wood, textiles, paper and photography.

New Adventures in Jewellery

The exhibition is produced by the National Museum, Oslo, and the Röhsska Museum is the only Swedish venue on its tour. The showing of From the Coolest Corner at the Röhsska Museum forms the starting point for New Adventures in Jewellery, an international programme of exhibitions, lectures and other events within the context of contemporary jewellery, taking place in Gothenburg and Western Sweden during the spring, summer and autumn of 2014.

New Adventures in Jewellery is run jointly by the Röhsska Museum, HDK – the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg, Konsthantverkscentrum and Hnoss Initiative, with support from Iaspis, Swedish Arts Council, Region Västra Götaland, Gothenburg Crafts Society and the Estrid Ericson Foundation.
