Intro
We are pleased to invite you all to all the events of Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER 2019, organized by The Gallery of Art in Legnica. The year's Festival programme comprises a number of collective and solo exhibitions of contemporary artistic jewellery and many accompanying events.
Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER has been held for years under the patronage of Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The Festival is recognized as an international event perfectly combining elements of local tradition and history with contemporary and avant-garde trends in the art world. Thanks to its reputation, uniqueness and international character, it is an event attended by artists from all over the world and attractive for professionals as well as amateurs and enthusiasts of modern art, and especially design. As every year, in May 2019 Legnica will be visited by numerous guests from Poland and abroad: artists, gold- and silversmiths, designers, students and lecturers of art schools, art critics, representatives of art media, and above all fans of contemporary jewellery.

As usual, the main event of the Festival is the International Jewellery Competition, this year held under the title Silver to emphasize the 40th anniversary of the SILVER Festival. Every year jewellery designers from all over the world submit a few hundred works, out of which around 40 is qualified for the main, post-contest exhibition by an international jury.

The culmination of the jubilee 40th edition of Legnica SILVER Festival organized by the Gallery of Art in Legnica is over. On May 17 and 18 vernissages of all exhibitions organized within the framework of this year's Festival as well as various accompanying events took place. Once again Legnica was a city breathing silver and the streets were full of visitors from all over the country and many corners of the world.

The two-day long jewellery fest began on Friday (May 17) with the inauguration of the Festival in Legnica Market Square. The opening of the exhibition 40 years of SILVER on posters was announced by the orchestra from the Drum Battle Rhythm Festival and by stilts from the Avatar Theatre.
Festival guests took part in the openings of SILVER exhibitions: Holownia (a show of works not qualified for the 28th International Jewellery Competition and the accompanying exhibition of posters illustrating the title Silver), Debuts (jewellery by Aleksandra Szulc), Remains of the Feast (a presentation within the framework of the Silver Schools series of the Romanian Assamblage Association), Amberif Design AwardInteriors - an exhibition of designers from the Chilean Joya Brava Association and the mystical 21 Grams show. The evening ended with a discussion among jewellers, which was a great opportunity to honour and thank Marek Nowaczyk - the man who invented Silver in Legnica. Mariusz Pajączkowski, a long-time participant of the Festival and a friend of the Gallery, also received a big thank-you from the organizers.
The second day of the silver marathon (May 18) was devoted to discussions and lectures during the theoretical seminar and openings of other exhibitions of unique jewellery: Presentations. Silver and Amber, historical Handmade. Polish silver art of 1945-1979, the series About the Authors: Jarosław Westermark and Karol Weisslechner.
As always the Festival high point was the announcement of winners of the 28th International Jewellery Competition and the prize-giving ceremony. But before the winners' names were read out there was time for thanks and congratulations. Because of the 40th anniversary, the list of those honoured with symbolic diamonds was exceptionally long. Diplomas and gifts were given to long-term friends and participants of the Festival - artists, benefactors, media and authorities' representatives, institutions, organizations and people who have their share in the organization of this fantastic event.
After the congratulatory part, the audience could finally learn the names of the Competition winners.
