The Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER, one of the largest reviews of contemporary artistic jewellery in Europe, has begun. This year, visitors can explore 13 exhibitions located in eight spaces in the heart of the town. We will have the opportunity to see unique jewellery, photographs and posters by nearly 400 artists from all over the world, including Poland, Germany, Belgium, Mexico and China.
The festival will last throughout the whole May, with its culmination taking place on May 13th-14th, 2022. It is this special, silver weekend that will turn the Lower Silesian town into the colourful capital of the jewellery world.
The programme of the event is available here.
The main event of the Legnica SILVER Festival is the International Jewellery Competition. Its current, thirtieth edition is held under the motto "Touch". Thus, this year the artists reflected on the role of touch and were looking for answers to questions what and how this sense, which is particularly close to jewellery, can communicate and how it affects the viewer. The main theme of this year's competition was particularly in tune with current socio-political events, as was reflected in the subject matter of the works submitted: Legnica received many objects referring to the war in Ukraine and, just as last year, to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In March 2022, the jury of the 30th International Jewellery Competition "Touch", including Sofia Björkman, Miroslav Cogan, Sławomir Fijałkowski, Nastya Ivlieva and Małgorzata Kalińska evaluated 426 works by 240 artists from 30 countries, qualifying works by 51 artists from 13 countries for the main exhibition.
The winners of the 30th International Jewellery Competition "Touch" will be announced during the culmination weekend on Saturday, the 14th of May, and the post-competition exhibition will be open until the 30th of June 2022. The culmination programme also includes the opening of the other festival presentations, meetings with artists and a popular scientific session " Boundaries of Global Art".
The organisers emphasise that - after a two-year break - the invitation to meet among artists and lovers of artistic jewellery is particularly warm.
