Ahead of us is the next edition of Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER. One of the biggest reviews of artistic jewellery in Europe. This year's edition of the event features 12 exhibitions, all located in the city centre. Solo and group exhibitions by artists from Poland and abroad will present a wide spectrum of the latest achievements in contemporary jewellery.
There will be exhibitions from the well-known series - About the Authors, Silver Schools and Debuts - as well as exhibitions accompanying the International Jewellery Competition.
The annual International Competition of Contemporary Jewellery is the main event of the Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER, organized by the Gallery of Art in Legnica since 1979. The Competition is dedicated to contemporary jewellery designers and goldsmiths. It promotes creative explorations within the field of jewellery, and at the same time, creative statements on the problems of the modern world.
This year, the theme of the Competition is QUALITY. The submitted works will be judged by an international jury of authorities in the field of jewellery art, who will determine the verdict. The main post-competition exhibition will feature the awarded objects as well as all the qualified ones. The remaining (non-qualified) works will go to the traditional show the Holownia. As every year, it will allow a confrontation of personal feelings with the jury's judgement.
This time the event will culminate on May 5-6, 2023. Silver weekend in Legnica will be an opportunity to meet and talk in an artistic and connoisseur community, there will be vernissages, a popular science session the Boundaries of Global Art and many accompanying events.
Among the artists presented in the About the Authors series there will be Kirsten Plank from Germany, whose exhibition is the realisation of the Art Gallery Award the artist received in the 29th International Jewellery Competition Still Human? in 2021. The artist's trademark are two-dimensional colour works with modern forms, subjected to deconstruction and transformation.
Legnica will also host an exhibition by Jolanta Gazda, who creates jewellery from crocheted silver wire. Each object involves many hours of work and many metres of used metal. Jolanta Gazda's works are inspired by natural forms with an organised, mathematical structure.
This year's Debut will be an exhibition by Patryk Caban. The young artist is the winner of the Gallery of Art in Legnica prize in the PROJECT competition organised by W. Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. The works of the youngest generation of artists are also promoted by the Gallery of Art in its 'Silver Schools' series.
Legnica SILVER Festival will also be an opportunity to see the latest works acquired for the International Collection of Contemporary Jewellery from the Gallery of Art in Legnica. It currently includes around 500 works, which makes it one of the largest collections of its kind in Europe. The vast majority of the collected objects were created in the 21st century, and a lot of them have been awarded and distinguished at International Jewellery Competitions.
