Modular Necklaces. A workshop with Lavinia Rossetti

Content of the Workshop:

Day 1: Lecture on Modular Necklaces 

• Connections, Links, Clasps.
• Parameters of wearability.
• Contemporary necklaces.
• Conceptual Research on shapes.
• Paper and cardboard prototypes.

​Day 2: Necklace cardboard prototypes

• Chocker.
• Collier.
• Long necklace.
• Individual talks to find appropriate connections.

​Day 3: Benchwork

• Try the chosen design in copper or brass (try different connections and jump rings).
• Students who are ready can start making the chosen modular sample in silver or other alloys (Shibuichi, Shakudo, Pure silver...) and start with the final design.

​Day 4: Benchwork

• Students continue making the necklace + individual talk.

Cost:
Workshop: 550€ divided in two quotes:
250€ as a reservation within 10th of May.
300€ on the day the course starts.

Materials:
All materials are included in the course price, we will work with brass, copper, and aluminium. The student can bring silver or other alloys if he wants to work with them.

Min & max Participants: 5-10 people.
*The workshop will take place if the minimum of participants is reached.

When: 23 - 24 - 25 - 26 of May, 2024.
4 days from Thursday to Sunday.
8 hours per day: 10:00-14:30 h / 15:30-19:00 h.


About the teacher:
Lavinia Rossetti is an Italian contemporary jewelry maker. She holds an MFA in Contemporary Jewelry and Body Ornament from Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence. She obtained a BA in Art History with a special focus in Art Jewellery from the University of Pisa, which was followed by a three-year program in Contemporary Jewellery at Alchimia, where she was tutored by international artists such as Peter Bauhuis and Ruudt Peters. She worked as an assistant for Ralph Bakker in Rotterdam and as a teaching assistant with Peter Bauhuis at Alchimia. After five years of teaching in the intensive courses at Alchimia, she is now giving technical and conceptual workshops in Europe and Asia and continuing her artistic investigation at the Royal Academy of Antwerp in the Body and Material Re-invented research program. She is working as an independent jewelry artist exposed to international fairs and exhibitions.
