Intro
A very special selection of impressive pieces by more than 180 artists from forty-two countries. From those that look back to classic forms and materials to the most daring, experimental, and surprising ideas, each of the five hundred necklaces included in this book has something that makes it unique and relates strongly to today's social, cultural, and artistic reality.

About the Autor:

Nicolas Estrada (Medellín, 1972) set out on his path as an artist in Barcelona, where other, very different motives had taken him. Until then, he had been a businessman working in the field of marketing. Destiny, however, had other things in store for him, ultimately leading Nicolas down different roads to the creation of jewellery filled with meaning, unique pieces of art replete with moving stories.

It was at Barcelona’s Llotja and lEscola Massana where Nicolas first encountered the world of jewellery, one in which he discovered a galaxy of infinite expressive possibilities. An indefatigable researcher, his curiosity and passion for this discipline have taken him all over the world. Guided by a sense of balance and refinement, Nicolas has pursued diverse courses of study ranging from gemmology, setting and carving techniques to research and work in such fields as traditional Berber Kabyle jewellery and filigree techniques in the Colombian town of Santa Cruz de Mompox.
Nicolas Estrada draws inspiration for his pieces from simple subject matter that touches directly on the humanity of those who observe his creations. The pieces do not seek to defend or take a position on situations that undoubtedly carry weight and importance for Nicolas’s native country and continent. Rather they represent the pure and clear gaze of an artist deeply moved by these phenomena who with the tools of his trade attempts to shed new light on and offer fresh interpretations of them. For Nicolas, each piece of jewellery possesses great power and value. An artistic proposal such as the one contained in the work of Nicolas Estrada is crystallised in a creative reflection full of meaning and strength, one that translates into an intimate dialogue between the object and the gaze of the other.

Nicolas offers us nothing less than the possibility of seeing something extraordinary and provocative, an ode to irreverence, and a reflection within the aura of a judiciously executed and deeply contemplated discipline.

A graduate in history and German literature Julia Wild has been since 2010 a member of the department of gemstones and jewelry design at University Trier in the gemstone city Idar-Oberstein (Germany). Her teaching focus especially in topics which touches both the field of jewelry and rituals, symbols or body and space. By connecting her academic background with the field of jewelry, her researches wants to follow the rising path of a jewelry theory.

Leo Caballero has cofounded in 2002 with Amador Bertomeu klimt02.net, a website that offers space of knowledge, information, debates and exchanges inside the context of contemporary jewelry, and in 2007 Klimt02 gallery in Barcelona, a physical space where they show the works of a group of selected international vanguard artists.
