The city of Cagnes-sur-Mer has been promoting contemporary jewellery for over 25 years by creating, in 1999, a gallery named Solidor, in tribute to the famous cabaret singer Suzy Solidor (1900-1983), who left Paris in 1960 to settle in Haut-de-Cagnes. She opened an antique shop (the current gallery) and a cabaret (now an exhibition hall adjacent to the gallery). The Grimaldi Castle Museum also features a collection of 40 portraits of this extraordinary personality.
The Museum of Contemporary Jewellery - Espace Solidor, located in the medieval village of Cagnes-sur-Mer, is entirely dedicated to contemporary jewelry. In addition to showcasing its exceptional collection of around 300 pieces, it regularly hosts temporary exhibitions devoted to this art.
Renowned international artists, as well as emerging creators, have already exhibited there.
The works of prominent international names have been displayed, such as Robert Baines, Karl Fritsch, Gerd Rothmann, Bruno Martinazzi, Annamaria Zanella, Peter Skubic, Otto Künzli, David Bielander, and Helen Britton, during the event “Destination Bijou Cagnes.”
French designers are, of course, well-represented, including Henri Gargat, Claude Pelletier, Arlette Baron, Gilles Jonemann, Florence Lehmann, Françoise and Claude Chavent, Christophe Burger, Cathy Chotard, Isabelle Busnel, Sébastien Carré, and Marianne Anselin.
