CODA Museum in Apeldoorn is a museum for contemporary art and regional history. As a museum for contemporary art we have been specializing in jewels and paper art. The Apeldoorns museum together with the Public Library and Municipal Archives, is a unique combination in the Netherlands. CODA is situated in the middle of the Culture Quarter, the sparkling cultural heart of Apeldoorn. The building is a creation of the architect Herman Hertzberger. Here you can enjoy superb architecture, a rich permanent collection and exciting exhibitions as well as the possibility of digging up further information in the Library.
The CODA Collection of Contemporary and Modern Art:
CODA Museum has two collections to which artworks have been added for over 100 years: a historic collection and a collection of modern art. One of the most distinguishing components of the modern art collection is the selection of contemporary jewellery. This jewellery collection does not only give an impression of the developments in jewellery design, but also shows how the relationship between the jewel and visual art, fashion and design has developed over the past decades. With themed exhibitions and monographic presentations, CODA Museum continuously charts these developments. CODA’s jewellery collection consists of over 5000 objects.
Autonomous Art: paintings, sculptures and graphical works of CoBrA artists, the Zerogroep, Lucebert, Corneille, Bram van Velde, Jan Sierhuis en Robert Terwindt, Carel Visser, Peter Struycken, Henk Peeters, Berend Hendriks, Ad Dekkers, Jan Schoonhoven, Raveel, Hannes Postma, Klaas Gubbels, Theo Elfrink, Nicolas Dings, Helen Frik, Arno Kramer, Rineke Marsman, Hans van Hoek, Berend Hoekstra, Paul Damsté.
Artist's books: this collection has been built as from 1978. artist's books are books which have been conceived by artists as works of art and are (or not) in print. There are books of (among others) Karel Appel, John Baldessari, Stanley Brown, James Lee Byars, Ulises Carrion, Hanne Darboven, Jan Dibbets, Michael Gibbs, Krijn Giezen, Gilbert & George, Sigurdur Gudmundsson, On Kawara, Richard Long, Soll Lewitt, George Maciunas, Edward Ruscha, W. Sandberg, David Tremlett and Emmett Williams.
Photography: the emphasis lies on contemporary pioneers who use photography as expressive means. Work of (among others): Paul de Nooyer, Jan Dibbets, Teun Hocks, David Ward en Duane Michals, M.S. Kryzanowski
