. In my paraphrase of the tarot card l'Amoureaux (VI), the three graces are depicted as three of our time most grotesque figures. In 2019 I considered Trump and Putin taking the lead. As the third grace I was unsure, testing with different prominent personalities from Western and Eastern culture I ended into a more drastic choice, the Death itself. As represented in the iconic movie of Ingmar Bergman, The Seventh Seal.Putin and Trump hold each a bomb. Death comes when time ends, therefore I put a clockwork in the hand of the death. The watch is from the Big Ben in London. The ground on which the figures stand is covered by death skulls...The sky is dark and threatening. But a scarf is made through the clouds by strong arrays of light and an angel appears pointing with a bow.

. Assigned the tarot card l'Amoureaux as my task for the exhibition, I had a missing element in my picture, the Cupido. Who could be the Cupido in my piece? What do we want for us in this world? What is the most important for our existence? Our planet. As a symbol for climate awareness and activism who could I choose if not Greta Thunberg? And where is the arrow? At the back of the card two arrow indicate two different directions. Two pictures of the Earth show the possible scenarios our actions will take us to. Depending in which direction we go it will result in an healthy peaceful globe or a destroyed one.

It seems as if there is a God all the world adulates, Mammon, the God of wealth and greed. Mammon is always present, in everyday life, at all society levels and in every working field.
To receive its favors (=money) individuals act falsely and calculating, stepping on each other and also often denying themselves. In the same way political games within and across the countries are played and the worship of Mammon is at the origin of all the wars, although these are often explained and justified in the name of more noble causes as religion, democracy and freedom.

Bio

Serena Holm is a swedish jeweller with a background in Art History and graduated from Göteborg University. The artist is represented by the Röhsska museum and received diverse grants, attesting the quality of her work. Serena Holm also marked her presence in international exhibitions, showing a body of work that seeks out the strange and the unfamiliar to present a new clarity in the end.

Statement

The necklace Nyonye-Ngana is a chain of fortune. It is made out of a collection of talismans from a different part of the world. When facing complex problems, humankind has often put its belief into magic rituals. Nyonye-Ngana is the creator of ants and son of Bumba, the creator god in the religion and mythology of the Kuba of Central Africa. After creating the ants Nyonye-Ngana died. To honor him, the ants went deep in the earth for dark soil to bury him and transformed the barren sands at the earth's surface. Ant colonies are described as superorganisms because the ants appear to operate as a unified entity, collectively working together to support the colony. Ant societies have a division of labour, communication between individuals, and an ability to solve complex problems. To survive further millions of years we have also to collaborate across the countries in order to keep our soil fertile and our air breathable.

My self-deception is that I create in order to understand and that the final end of it all might be wisdom.
This means that I deliberately seek out the strange, the unfamiliar, even the unknowable, as subjects for my novels and trust my imagination to illuminate them to the point where both I and the reader can see them with a new clarity. The writers I admire most seem to have this kind of goal: to comprehend experience distant from their own, in nature, place and time, and to let the extraordinary cast new light on the quotidian.

Mariya Voyvodova, councillor of the municipality of Gothenburg, from the Social Democratic party (S) with responsibility for culture, human rights and youth, and Gunilla Lindén, from the Christian Democratic party (KD) and member of Västra Gotaland's Human Rights Committee, will take part in a conversation with young refugees and with Svante Frebrandost from the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan. Moderator will be Johanna Hazar from Amnesty Gothenburg.
The project is supported by the Cultural Committee of Gothenburg.

The conversation will start at 18.00.
