The catalogue illustrates the works shown during Talente. Master of the Future 2023, an annual competition for young designers organized into the Handwerk & Design exhibition.
This year’s 'Talente. Masters of the Future' displays works in 12 different fields by 98 young designers or teams from 24 nations, now including China, India, Iran, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mexico, Slovakia, and Taiwan. Many of the pieces on view, especially in the fields of glass, ceramics, jewellery and textiles, are highly innovative, imaginative and extremely varied.
'Talente. Masters of the Future' presents a fascinating selection that reflects the concerns of young designers for the contemporary issues of our day. These include sustainability, a great interest in materials, and the positive aspects of encounters among different cultures. A further focus, significant in the context of the International Crafts Fair, is on the interplay of traditional arts and crafts with modern technology. The history and strengths of the applied arts in design are given special attention. There is an apparent need to continue these in an innovative way, to bring them up to date with the aid of modern technology, and to adapt them to the desire for personal expression. This addresses a key factor in the applied arts and their history because they represent an incessant attempt to unite the past and the present. Technology and design go hand in hand and mutually fructify one another.
/ Wolfgang Lösche, Chamber of Trades and Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria. Head of Talente. Masters of the Future Special Show
