20 Works for 20 Years

For two decades, Allison & Ivan have taken great care to curate the gallery in a way that engages the senses of sight, sound, taste and touch procured by what they call, soul-stirring works. Pivotal by the way they encourage unusual conversations of differing works within that space.

Director of Patina, Ivan Barnett explains that the 20 pieces joined together in the exhibition will be diverse. How does one facilitate the conversation between a large image of a Porsche, for instance, with a delicate pair of gold & aquamarine earrings? The exhibition will explore why particular curatorial choices are made and artfully, how gallery curators can make pieces work together in space.

When I'm considering work for Patina, comments Allison Barnett, I'm drawn to surface, contrast and an authentic vision from the artist. I look for flow, movement, energy and the element of surprise. I look for originality and craftsmanship. What we [Ivan and I] look for is this: 'Do we love it?' At the heart of it all, we have to love what we show.

20 Works for 20 Years is intended as an immersive experience, visitors have the ability to view pieces from varying points of observation. The exhibit will challenge viewers to conceptualize relationships between dissimilar forms of art in juxtaposing scale, proportion and design. Allowing those to connect to a crucial part of Patina's brand history in its celebratory 20th anniversary.
