Intro
Bird, fish or somewhere in between is a collaborative project with jewelry and art objects about the human impact on nature. The project contains about 20 works of art and handicrafts.
First shown in Paris during the Biennale Émergences and Parcours Bijoux 2020, then at Not Quite in Fengersfors this summer - now there is a chance to see Sofia Björkman's and Karin Roy Andersson's exhibition "Bird, fish or somewhere in between" at  PLATINA in Stockholm.

First there was a big bang, then 4 billion years later life appeared on earth. About 450 million years ago fish started swimming in the oceans and then 250 million years after birds were flying in the skies. Then it took 200 million years until a gallery for contemporary jewellery opened in Stockholm and 10 years later another one opened in Göteborg. Strangely enough the women behind these galleries, Sofia Björkman and Karin Roy Andersson, independently developed an interest in fish and birds, climate impact, and social changes in society. They both share experiences of how it is to be artists and run galleries. Was it something in the water? Was it something in the air? Or maybe it all happens somewhere in between.

For a long time, Karin Roy Andersson has been working with plastics. Waste material that she searches for in garbage containers and ditch banks, at the hairdresser, and in restaurants. The exhibition also shows jewellery and objects made of naturally tanned reindeer skin, in a way also a waste material that is not always used after reindeer slaughter. Karin was introduced to the material by a Sami colleague and the long tradition of leatherwork and the organic material awakens thoughts about heritage, knowledge, and maintenance of craft traditions.

Sofia Björkman works with three-dimensional objects that move between jewellery, body-related portable works, installations, drawings, and paintings. The work flows between different art genres such as free art, crafts, and jewellery. They relate to landscape paintings, sketches, and decorative objects. The material is PLA, a degradable bioplastic that is melted into hand drawings. There are fishlike pieces that are made of polycarbonate, similar to the plastic bottles that are spread in the oceans.

Open during weekdays: 11.00 - 18.00 h and Saturdays 11.00 -15.00 h.
