Surfaces are inexhaustible sources: entire unwritten, invisible worlds hover around them. Through surfaces, we glide other dimensions. When faced with a jewel, we learn to observe carefully, as details require subtlety of vision. Wonder shines through surfaces, but above all, memory also emerges from them.
By closely into observing Maria Rosa Franzin’s work, we encounter pieces that share curiosity, vision, research, and memory. From her earliest works, including the crucial design work on paper, with watercolor and ink studies, the net pattern has left its mark, celebrating the stylistic signature that distinguishes the artist’s work, and providing the subject matter for her research into materials other than metal.
Throughout her artistic re-search, both metal and new materials, such as methacrylate and resins, offer new inspiration for design and creativity. Sometimes the metal is articulated into mobile elements dotted with small stones; from colored methacrylate emerge the luminous eyes of curious creatures that observe us; other times, delicate silhouettes evoke memories and emotional journeys.
The memory that arises is never still, it is always in motion. In each piece, every element is bound to the next through a play of balance, rhythm, and cadence. Sheets of metal or resin overlap, slide, or sing with a silvery tone. Some surfaces shimmer with gold dust; others are adorned with small, precious fragments that soften their outlines or highlight elegant details; some conceal elements that unfold like secrets.
Anchored by solid goldsmithing technique, each work invites the viewer into a journey of curiosity, introspection, and remembrance.
And because memory is concentric, it speaks first to the particular, then opens to the universal through all the surprising rewards jewelry’s details reveal.
