This short intensive course introduces the student to a diverse range of earrings and their technical solutions.
A brief history of earrings and their meanings and purpose.
In this course we seek to find innovative solutions to the structure and movement of earrings, whether simple or more complex.
We will work through a series of exercises and demo pieces to inspire the creative ideas and capabilities of each individual student. Hands-on exercises will help students to learn and practise various techniques, connections and movements.
Processes developed in the workshop:
- Design.
- Solutions.
- Variations.
- Studs.
- Hangings.
- Moving: links, jump rings, rivets, tubes, hinges, threads...
- Combining different materials.
- What is the ideal weight? Maximum weight?
Materials to bring:
- 0.9mm or 1mm, 1,5mm silver wire.
- silver/brass/copper sheet.
- any material you want to work with / metal, wires, plastic, wood, resin, textile, polymer clay, photos, perspex, found objects. etc.
- any work in progress that needs to be resolved.
- drawings, images, ideas.
- examples of previously made earrings if any. Never made earrings? genial!
Earrings can be made using only metal or combining mixed materials.
Unions : soldering, rivets, settings, cold connections.
Dates
5 and 6th of june 2025, from 9h to 13h and 14h to 18h (8h each day).
Number of Participants
10 maximum per workshop.
Level: basic jewellery level.
Place
Bruxelles (near Place Flagey).
Price
285 Euros + 10 euros / homemade lunch (optional).
Languages

About Judy McCaig:
A Scottish jeweller, printmaker and painter, who since 1991 has lived and worked in Barcelona. Born in Edinburgh, studied art and jewellery at Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art, Dundee, Scotland from 1975-79. From 1980-83 she studied for a Master of Arts at The Royal College of Art, London. On completion of her studies she travelled extensively in Egypt and Europe.
On her return to London in 1984, she studied printmaking for three years and set up a workshop at 401½ Studios. From 2000 until the present day she has been teaching at the Massana School of Art in Barcelona and since 2009 at Taller Perill, Barcelona. Also acting as visiting lecturer in the USA, Germany, Portugal, UK, Spain, Italy, Canada, Chile and Argentina. She exhibits both nationally and internationally and has work in many public and private collections.
