Not Only Decoration (NOD) is an international, artist-run platform for socially and environmentally engaged jewellery, art, and design. NOD emerged from the desire to connect artists who use their creative practice to reflect, question, and challenge the world around them.
NOD is more than a magazine. It is a tool, a community, and a growing archive. Our aim is to spotlight critical artistic positions that go beyond surface value – addressing urgent topics such as environmental destruction, social injustice, and the ethics of material production. Through curated publications, exhibitions, and a growing online archive, NOD creates space for work that too often falls through the cracks of conventional design and art discourse.
At the heart of NOD lies the belief that making is political – and that jewellery and objects can be powerful carriers of critique, resistance, and care.
NOD’s core mission is to support and promote artists who use jewellery, design, and object-making to engage with the pressing issues of our time. We provide an inclusive platform for works that challenge norms, open dialogue, and advocate for a more sustainable and just future.
Our objectives include:
- Publishing critical and accessible content that raises awareness around social, ecological, and human rights concerns
- Offering visibility to underrepresented voices and projects within the field of contemporary jewellery and design
- Offering makers around the world opportunities to share their work and ideas through our magazine, curated exhibitions, and digital platforms
- Encouraging ethical reflection on material sourcing, production processes, and the value systems behind objects
- Creating bridges between disciplines, generations, and geographies by fostering collaboration and exchange
As a self-organised, non-profit initiative, we believe in collective action and the power of community. Our work is made possible by the engagement of artists worldwide – and by readers, supporters, and allies who share our vision.
