Anna Norrgrann works and studied in Gothenburg, Sweden and took her master degree in jewellery art at HDK, School of Design and Crafts 2015.
Statement
I'm attracted to the qualities in different kinds of metal that make them perform in various and unique ways, depending on the treatment. I see my work as collaboration between these qualities in the material and my own technical knowledge. I'm searching for the unexpected and aim to set up a poetic jewellery show speaking to the spectators' senses rather than to their intellect. In my master degree project I did this within the space of an A4 in aluminium, and repeated the procedure many times. I wanted to investigate the limitations and possibilities this square contains, what it means to me and to us. How it communicates to us, and how we communicate through it. I confronted the format and the unwritten page, practically and intellectually, by using the hammer, stretching the material and creating structures and paths in the surface. I then colorised with the anodising technic. Giving life to the newly formed landscapes, and bringing watercolour like aspects of depth.
A4, in this work, is meant to be worn on the body. I let it become a piece of jewellery with simple methods, drilling a hole, threading a string, tying a knot. When something normal to us is put in a new context or wrong context, it might be the first time we actually see it.
