Olive wood, silver 925
Athenas street, named after Ancient Greek goddess Athena who was the protector of Athens once she prevailed over Poseidon by gifting the Olive tree to Kekropas, King of the city. A street that has ever since divided and united various states, cultures, and topographies. Amidst Neoclassical buildings arose scaffoldings, among antiquaries, fast food restaurants - cultures and civilizations mingle in an effort for unity. Employing Olivewood, silver, and composites the series builds on the notion of fusion, permanent or temporary, successful or not. Athenas street a mixing pot of diversity.

Greek artist, trained as a sculptor in the United Kingdom, who over the years has reduced the extra-large welded steel fabrications into intimate pieces that carry distilled notions that evade our fast-paced societies.
Statement
Throughout my career as an artist, I have tried to find ways to communicate notions and feelings that are evident but neglected in our modern, fast-paced societies. Early works achieved this aim through large scale metal and wood sculptures. Over time the scale has been reduced, the concepts distilled to finer ideas, intimate pieces that can be worn. The latest wearable collection is Tenebris. A collection created in an attempt to convey the feelings that conquered my subconscious after the devastating wildfires in the region of Attika, Greece that consumed human lives, animals and hundreds of forest acres. Through the primary symbol of the collection, the tree, used either as a memory, or as destroyed and burnt material, the connection of living forms with the universe is explored as are the three states, beginning, middle, end.
Materials salvaged from the burnt regions fabricate sinister objects, a homage to what was lost, to what has seized to exist. The juxtaposition of the tree with the cross, the vertical connection with the center of the Earth, the link of the embryo with the umbilical cord, metaphors of rebirth, of light.
Tenebris is an exploration of the self-destructing human nature, of its effect on nature, but also a search for faith. For the mystery of life and death is a constant conflict between rebirth and attrition, despair and hope.
My aim is not only to create an aesthetically pleasing piece but to confront the audience with concepts that affect our modern ego centered societies…
